The 6 Best Speciality Coffee Shops to Visit in Brighton
Jul 10, 2025
We may be biased, but we think Brighton has one of the best coffee cultures in the country. With many well known roasteries and cafes across the city (including yours truly), sometimes the choice can be overwhelming when visiting, so we’ve pulled together the 6 best speciality coffee shops to visit in Brighton – as a tourist and local!
Small Batch Coffee Roasters, Goldstone Villas and Wellington House
We couldn’t do a Best Speciality Coffee Shops post without mentioning our flagship café! Opened in 2006, Goldstone Villas was our original roastery site and started the Small Batch journey of sourcing incredible, unique high-grade coffees from across the globe and bringing them to the Brighton community.
Whilst our roastery has expanded and moved to Wellington House in Portslade (which also features a café a few minutes walk from Hove Lagoon and the sea), Goldstone still proves to be a favourite spot for many Hove residents and commuters, with our outdoor patio being a suntrap in summer and our cosy corners great for remote working or finding downtime to catchup with friends over coffee. Pop in for a freshly roasted beans, a latte or cold brew, and grab a loyalty card to build stamps for a free coffee!
Our drink recommendation: our single origin cold brew (a new flavour every month!) or espresso with Goldstone
Nutriveo Cafe
Perfectly located on Ship Street and Dyke Road (near Western Road), Nutriveo is a health conscious café focused on nourishing the body and soul with great tasting ingredients sourced from local vendors. From speciality coffee to freshly made juices and smoothies, Nutriveo is a great choice if you’re looking for the freshest flavours and a central Brighton location where you can unwind.
Our drink recommendation: Latte with House Blend
Black Mocha
Nestled in the midst of the North Laines, Black Mocha warm and cosy location is packed with plenty of great tasting coffees and hot drinks on its menu, as well as brunch, cakes and more. Known for their decadent mocha, milk and dark hot chocolates, Black Mocha use the highest grade coffees to create drinks that reflect the vibrancy of our Brighton community, whilst also working to reduce non-compostable waste or products that can’t be infinitely recycled.
Our drink recommendation: Black Mocha or Salted Caramel Mocha
Loam
Tucked away off Sydney Street, Loam is quickly building a reputation for serving some of the best speciality coffees – owners Francesco and Delavieje set out to create a space for coffee enthusiasts and creatives, and their regular, limited edition rotation of global brands truly showcases their passion for all things hand crafted. As well as their innovative coffees, Loam is well-known for its cinnamon rolls, selling out daily and craved by many Brighton local and tourist who visit. If you love all things aesthetic and curated, then Loam is a Brighton must visit.
Our drink recommendation: try both their current espresso and filter rotations, you’ll discover something new each time!
Bread and Milk
Situated at the top of the North Laines, Bread and Milk have been serving up wholesome coffee and cake since 2012. Their varied menu and bright yet cosy café has helped cultivate a dedicated community culture that supports local vendors, with a delicious coffee offering that perfectly balances milk to coffee for a truly delicious cup. A perfect spot for pre or post shopping fuel, grab a seat outside (mind the seagulls!) and indulge in their highly rated carrot cake with a coffee of your choice.
Our drink recommendation: Flat white or espresso tonic – served with a slice of orange!
