We’re proud to be working with Falcon Coffee to bring you our latest showcase coffee. This exciting natural anaerobic heirloom hails from Aricha in the Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia, with notes of hibiscus, rose, turkish delight, lemon zest, strawberry and chocolate.

We created the showcase range to highlight high-grade, innovative and limited quantity coffees from around the globe, bringing elevated flavours and process to the everyday cup. After many months of sourcing and cupping, our roastery team found the bright and fruity notes of Ethiopia Aricha to be something new and exciting, something unlike anything we've offered before and worthy of being our latest showcase.

Grown by smallholder farmers under false banana shade trees, the coffee undergoes fermentation in plastic barrels for nine days, followed by a drying period of 13-18 days. The processing methods are chosen to maximize the intense, juicy flavor characteristics of this coffee. Once dried and stored, the coffee is transported and readied for export.

This coffee has been expertly developed, with carefully curated crop harvests to ensure taste, quality and flavour - truly a high-grade coffee to appreciate and savour.

Grown at an elevation of 2,150 masl, Ethiopian coffee production is strongly influenced by the country's three main seasons. The Bega season (October–January) is a long dry period crucial for coffee harvesting and processing. The Belg season (February–May) brings the first rains, essential for coffee flowering and early fruit development. During the Krempt season (June–September), heavy eastern rains are vital for the later stages of coffee cherry development and ripening. By the end of September, the rains suddenly stop, allowing the cherries to ripen fully, with harvest peaking in November.

The main challenge faced during this crop cycle was the unusually high levels of rainfall which made it difficult to dry the coffee properly. However, despite these challenges, the site remained committed to producing high-quality coffee and contributing to the local economy and have created a truly unique coffee

The Ephtah site in Aricha is poised for future investments and development, focusing on sustaining and improving the quality of coffee production in the region.

What's the difference between a regular single origin and showcase coffee?

Across our blends and single origins, we always source high-grade, high-quality coffee from across the globe, so that every bean is traceable and has been produced in expert conditions to create standout flavour profiles. They are typically larger crops with regular availability

With showcase coffees, these are produced in much smaller quantities, grown and developed with specialised methods, and use innovative processing methods to create exciting and unique flavours not readily available in the coffee market. The farmers and producers themselves will be industry pioneers, looking to push the boundaries of sustainable and flavourful farming and production, to excite and delight coffee enthusiasts (and roasters!) around the world.

Why are Heirloom beans so special?

Heirloom coffees are popular thanks to their unique and complex flavour profiles, resulting from specific genetic makeup and traditional cultivation methods. These coffees, particularly from Ethiopia, are known for their diverse and often fruity, floral, or earthy notes, making them a sought-after choice in the specialty coffee market. The cultural and historical significance of heirloom varieties, along with the care taken in their cultivation, also contribute to their appeal.

How long will my beans stay fresh?

We believe coffee beans are at their peak 10 days post-roasting, giving the beans time to rest and develop fully. Beans are best enjoyed 2-4 weeks from opening, and will keep fresh up to 6 months.

Can I buy Ethiopia Aricha in your cafes?

Our showcase coffees are an online exclusive, and very limited quantities, so we'd recommend purchasing online before we run out! However, if you are local to our roastery or cafe, you can pop in to try a sample on filter.
