The Sand Project at Small Batch

This week, we invited The SAND Project team down to the roastery to give some of their students some barista and latte art training!
Joe kicked off the session by introducing everyone the world of coffee, whilst Ed focused on educating and training the students in using commercial coffee machines and perfecting their latte art and milk pours.
This is one of many training sessions we've hosted for The SAND Project, a college based in Worthing that offers practical and varied learning experiences in real life settings to young people from 16-25 with EHCPs. The college use a strength based approach to build confidence and self-esteem, whilst helping students gain skills and experience in all of the Preparation for Adulthood (PfA) outcomes. Trainees learn how to harness their neurodivergent assets and feel prepared for their adult lives with the goal of meaningful paid work.
As well as the college, The SAND Project also have their own shop and cafe, where they serve Small Batch Coffee alongside handmade items by the students and local suppliers.
Throughout the short session, it was clear to see how The SAND Project had developed a great and encouraging environment for the students, with everyone keen to learn and enthusiastic about making (and drinking) different coffees, and new skills to take home or to future work placements.
